Bettesworths have been successful in selling and valuing hotels and pubs since 1943. Historically
located in Torbay, the practice is active throughout the South of England. The firm specialises hotel sales
in Torbay, acquisition and valuation of hotels, leisure and licensed properties and possesses a wealth of
experience in this sector of the market.
Based within the English Riviera of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, the firm has a highly successful track
record in guest house and hotel sales with possibly the largest selection available in Torbay.
Bettesworths offer a personal service and believe that the best advice is provided by professionals who
have no commitments to anyone other than their clients. The firm is totally independent and owned by the
Directors.
Matt Bettesworth BSc (Hons) MRICS FAVLP
Managing Director
A Chartered Surveyor with a wealth of experience in the Licensed Property Market having been involved for many years in sales and acquisition nationally for private and corporate clients in London. Matt joined Bettesworths in 2001 and now heads up the pub sales team. He is the first director of the third generation. Vets rugby player, now adventure racer, occasional golfer with a young family.
Barney Bettesworth FRICS FAVLP ACIArb
Director
Recently celebrated 40 years as a Chartered Surveyor and Director. Vastly experienced in the valuation, sale and acquisition of Pubs and Hotels with extensive contacts in the freetrade and corporate markets. Keen rugby supporter and indifferent but enthusiastic golfer! Involved in charity work with HCPT, the Pilgrimage Trust.
Paddy Bettesworth MA (Cantab) FRICS
Director
A highly experienced Chartered Surveyor who specializes in the hotel market and development projects throughout the South West. Paddy has been a director for over 30 years and is also responsible with Matt for long term strategic planning. Ex sub 2 hours 30 min marathon runner, but still a competitive International sailor.
Stephen Lofthouse MRICS
Director
Stephen is a highly gifted, prize winning, Chartered Surveyor, who has great indepth knowledge of the commercial, residential and investment markets gained over the past 20 years. His negotiating skills are evidenced by his very successful track record. Father of 3 young boys which helps Stephen hone his football and swimming skills.

A hugely respected agent with many years involvement in the Torbay Hotel and Guest House market. John has been an integral part of Bettesworths Hotel sales team for over 20 years. Talented photographer.
Riccardo De Paulis ABII
Licensed Property & Catering Department
ATrained at the Five Star Imperial Hotel, in Torquay, the Hotel des Bergues in Geneva and The Royal Hotel in Guernsey. Since 1994 Ric has used his considerable knowledge of the hotel, pub and catering industry in skillfully helping both purchasers and vendors through the often difficult buying and selling process. Also a keen golfer and father of young Alex.
Martyn Kelly
Licensed Property & Catering Department
Joined Bettesworths Licensed Property team in 2007. Martyn has many years experience in estate agency having held senior positions in two major national companies. Born in S Wales, he spent much of his childhood in Kenya before returning to be educated in Devon at Blundells. Another rugby enthusiast who enjoys coaching his son, Sam, in the under 13’s. Golfer, cricketer and passionate skier!
Paul Bettesworth BSc (Hons) MRICS
Hotel & Commercial Department
The latest and seventh Bettesworth to join the family company. Having graduated with an honours degree in Estate Management from Reading University, Paul joined one of the top 10 Consultancy & Agency Companies in London where he was involved in retail agency, valuation and landlord & tenant work for major national clients before heading back to the SW at the end of 2006. Plays rugby for Torquay Athletic and is a highly competent skier and another occasional golfer.
Val Huteson
Hotel Department
For the past decade, Val has been an integral part of the back up team behind the successful commercial department providing valuable support to the Hotel department in particular.
Genevieve Stringer
Hotel Department
Having gained considerable experience over the past 5 years or so assisting in the Hotel and Commercial Department, Genevieve is now meeting buyers and accompanying viewings. She manages to do this part time while combining the challenges of motherhood.
Gill Marshall
Licensed Property & Catering Department
PA to Matt, Barney and Riccardo, Gill rejoined Bettesworths in the Summer of 2005, having previously been Barney’s secretary way back in the late 1970’s. Gill has spent her entire career in estate agency and is the cornerstone of the busy Licensed Property and Catering Department. A committed supporter of Bath FRC, keen surfer and keep fit enthusiast.
Paul Dollins
Accountant & Business advisor
Formerly with Francis Clark, Chartered Accountants, and now self employed, Paul has been associated with Bettesworths for over 2 decades providing invaluable advice. Another runner and golfer with a young family.
Tracy De Paulis
'The glue' in the Accounts Department. Tracy has been with the Company for over 10 years and is married to Ric. She works part time for Bettesworths. Another runner, recently completing a half marathon.
