Torquay is one of the three towns which form the English Riviera resort of Torbay. The population of Torquay is approximately 64,000 (Torbay in total around 131,000). The area is principally a tourist resort attracting a substantial number of visitors each year. Cockington Village is located approximately a mile away from Torquay’s seafront and offers a great day out for tourists and locals alike. Cockington is one of the most densely thatched villages in England. As well as its centre piece, the Grade II listed Cockington Court, the village comprises a working forge, waterwheel, and medieval church. The stunning water meadows connect Cockington to the seafront, and there are plenty of green spaces and walking routes.

In the village centre stands The Old School House, a 15th century thatched Devon Longhouse, originally used as a livestock barn then becoming the village school. More recently the premises has been trading as a Tea Rooms with Gift Shop. The Old School House spaciously seats 18 internally with pretty garden seating for 50+ at picnic tables under mature trees. The Tea Rooms offer Tea & Coffee, cold drinks, pasties, sandwiches, a range of cakes & cream teas and Kelly Ice Cream. The Gift Shop offers a range of local made fudge, jams, chutneys, preserves alongside souvenirs, gifts and children’s toys. The Tearoom is owner operated trading throughout the year, 7 days a week at the height of the season reducing over the shoulder months to weekends only.
