The Devonshire Dumpling stands in a high profile position on the A377 where the roads from Morchard Bishop and Down St Mary meet. The Inn is surrounded by delightful unspoilt Devon countryside with a number of villages, a 9 hole golf course, fishing lakes and a vineyard all nearby. Dartmoor and Exmoor are both within easy reach. The railway station at Morchard Road on the famous Tarka Line is only 50 yards away and there are several trains a day serving stations from Exeter to Barnstaple. The area is also popular with walkers as the Inn is on the Two Moors Way.
The Devonshire Dumpling, formerly known as the Sturt Arms, was first opened in the 19th Century and it is now widely known for good food and a friendly family atmosphere with trade drawn from far and wide. In recent years, the property has been substantially renovated and the Conservatory added. The property has also recently been connected to fibre broadband.
A comprehensive Lunch time menu with a number of light bites and a good selection of baguettes and sandwiches is available. In addition there is a wide selection of main courses with a good selection of steaks provided by a local butcher from local reared Devonshire Beef. The evening menu is A La Carte and more comprehensive with a number of house specials, steaks, fish dishes, entrées and other main courses including a vegetarian selection. The starters range from £4.95 to £6.50, with main courses from £8.95 to 16oz rump at £19.95, popular Platinum Lunch - £5.95 main course Monday to Saturday. A popular children’s menu is also available. A fine selection of wines compliment the food as well as a selection of lagers, beers and cask conditioned ales. The Letting Accommodation is also popular. During their period of ownership the present proprietors have enhanced the business and are now only reluctantly selling because of health problems.
