Dartmouth lies at the mouth of the River Dart in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The River Dart is widely acknowledged as one of the most beautiful rivers in England and is much loved by sailing and boating enthusiasts. Dartmouth is also a haven for tourists, with its magnificent Naval College, picturesque waterfront and wonderful architecture. Dart to Mouth Deli is located within the Dartmouth Old Market Building which was built in 1828. The market has original cobble stoned walkways with central building locating the Dartmouth Chronicle and South Hams Gazette. Other retail outlets include a selection of local, independent, artisan retailers.
Dart to Mouth Deli is an extremely popular deli with both locals and tourists set within this beautiful location in the South Hams. The premises are decorated with colourful bunting, a range of antique wicker baskets and an assortment of potted plants making for a delightful setting in which to enjoy the quality produce available. The Deli focuses on providing homemade, fresh local produce including a large range of locally made cheeses, a selection of homemade scones, quiches and soups alongside freshly filled baguettes, freshly baked bread, homemade cakes and gluten free options. Examples of the daily specials include smashed avocado on sour dough and crab baguettes. Dart to Mouth Deli is also the home of Devon’s Number 1 Cream Tea as awarded by Ditch Townsends and published in his book ‘The Devon Cream Teaser’. The shelves are stocked with quality products from a range of West Country manufactures including jams, chutneys, biscuits, salt and beverages. The premises are licensed to sell alcohol and the Deli stocks a range of wines, lagers, ciders and local craft gins. The Deli has a very charming outside seating area, providing 34 covers. For the customers comfort during the cooler winter months, there is a purpose built fully enclosed canopy with electric heat lamps and decorated with fairy lights. Customer blankets are also available.
The Deli, although ‘financially separate’, is associated with the famous and well publicised ‘Picnic Boat’. Moored at Dart Marina the Picnic Boat offer up to 12 passengers, a truly unique experience of the perfect English River Picnic whilst enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the River Dart.
